Chris Hemsworth Ditched Meat For Kissing Scene With Natalie Portman in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Chris Hemsworth is just as heroic off-screen as the Marvel superhero he portrays. He even gave up eating meat before filming a scene in which he kissed Natalie Portman, who is a vegan, in “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

The actress, who played Jane Foster again in the latest “Thor” movie, and her co-star Tessa Thompson recently appeared on the UK radio program “Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp,” where they spoke of Hemsworth’s kindness. The two guests were interrogated by the hosts about whether Hemsworth had any flaws hidden beneath the muscle and charisma, but Portman and Thompson only had good things to say about the stalwart of Marvel to say.

“The day we had a kiss scene, he didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan,” Portman said of Hemsworth. “He eats meat like every half hour … he was just being thoughtful.”

Portman converted to vegetarianism at the age of nine and has been a vegan for more than ten years. She said on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp that she didn’t ask Hemsworth to refrain from meat before their kiss; instead, he just did it because he’s “a very good person.”

Praising her thoughtful co-star, Portman said: “He’s really nice.

“The day we had a kiss scene, he didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan.

“And he eats meat like every half hour. Like, that was so thoughtful. That’s not something I’m angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He’s just a very nice person.”

Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson, added: “I didn’t even know he could go without eating meat. He’s [usually] just, like, eating bison in the morning. That’s so sweet.”

Hemsworth said last month that he was in “awe” of Portman’s presence and talent on set in an equally gushing interview.

He told Variety: “A little stab to the ego, but I quickly got over it and I was in awe of everything she had done one and off the screen. I’m such a fan.”

Despite her professional knowledge, the preparation required for Thor: Love and Thunder were very different from anything she had to do in the past.

Portman stated in a recent interview with Variety that she was instructed “to go as big as possible” for the film.

“It was really fun,” she said. “I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes—heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before.”

She added: “Of course, I’ve never really aimed to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of both agility work and also strength work.”
