Lizzo shuts down body-shamers and calls herself and Kim Kardashian ‘modern-day body icons’

In a recent cover interview with People, singer Lizzo opened out about how frequently she is fat-shamed, and we’re all for it. The 33-year-old The Truth Hurts singer described herself as a “body icon” and said she’s attempting to embrace her newfound self-love while ignoring the harsh remarks she receives on social media.

As she opened out about self-love and acceptance, the 33-year-old singer stated that she’s “moving into her confidence” to set her own standard. “I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day,” she told People.

“It may not be one person’s ideal body type just like, say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard.”

“What I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard. And one day that will just be the standard,” the ‘Good As Hell’ singer added.

The Detroit-born singer also discussed the stereotypes she has faced because of her size.

“The funny, fat friend. I played that trope in high school,” Lizzo recalled. “Or the friend who is gonna beat your ass cause she’s big. Or it’s the big girl who’s insecure cause she’s big. I don’t think I’m the only kind of fat girl there is. I want us to be freed from that box we’ve been put in.”

Lizzo has long been a supporter of body positivity, and in January she even celebrated her weight gain.

In the peppy Instagram video, the ‘Truth Hurts’ hitmaker showed off her curves during a solo dance party in her bathroom set to City Girls’ ‘Rodeo.’

“I gained weight,” Lizzo posted on Instagram, adding: “I look TF GOODT.”

Her film demonstrates how far she’s gone since August when she was driven to tears after receiving brutal online harassment in the aftermath of the release of her new music video.

According to People, after the premiere of her music video ‘Rumors’ with Cardi B, the three-time Grammy Award-winning musician grieved over the harsh trolls on social media who had insulted her beauty.

Lizzo revealed her body ‘with nothing on’ in a video and photo last month, accompanied by a profound message on the art of self-love.

“If you love me… you love all of me,” the 33-year-old wrote. “You don’t get to pick and choose.”

“We should be unconditionally loving of one another, starting with being unconditionally loving to ourselves. Take a moment today and think about the conditions we hold so tightly to that keep us from the freedom of true love. Do you really wanna be so tightly wound?” she added.

“Free yourself in love. You deserve it,” the caption concluded.
