Will Smith hit a “low moment” after his surprise for Jada Pinkett Smith’s 40th birthday party fell through.

A resurfaced clip from Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk series shows how husband Will once spent three years planning a surprise birthday party – only for her to not quite the reaction he expected.

The footage reveals that her 40th birthday party was a ‘ridiculous display’ of her husband Will’s ‘own ego’ according to Jada Pinkett Smith.

During the chat, the couple agreed that the incident was the ‘turning point’ in their relationship leading Jada to have an affair with musician August Alsina, 29.

Jada recalled: ‘I think the turning point in our relationship for me, happened when I turned 40. That’s when I had a mid-life crisis.’

Will agreed, saying: ‘Yeah, your 40th birthday was my low point.’

‘The day after her 37th birthday, I hired a team to orchestrate her 40th birthday.’

He further continued turning to daughter Willow: ‘I hired a documentary team, I traced mommy’s family roots. Her 40th birthday was going to be my thing!’

Cute: As daughter Willow sympathetically put her hand on her fathers arm, Will continued: 'Crushed, right? And to this day I know I was crushed because it was true. It wasn't a party for her.'

Jada sighed: ‘It was going to be a splash.’

‘It was going to be the thing that lifted her out of this mid-life crisis. It was going to be my deepest most beautiful proclamation of love. 

However, a disappointed Jada told the actor that the lavish event was the ‘most ridiculous display of his ego’.

As daughter Willow kindly put her hand on her father’s arm, Will continued:  ‘Crushed, right? And to this day I know I was crushed because it was true. It wasn’t a party for her.’

During an interview with GQ in November 2021, Smith explained what happened in his marriage following this period. Smith stated in his book on his marriage to Pinkett Smith, “Jada never believed in conventional marriage…. Jada had family members that had an unorthodox relationship.” As a result, she grew up in a totally different way than I did.

“Marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road to anybody. I don’t suggest this road to anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”

Recently, Will Smith has been banned for 10 years from the Oscars after the incident of him smacking Chris Rock over a joke he made on Jada’s baldness.
