Russian cosmonauts aboard ISS wearing colors of Ukraine flag

Many people have used the Ukrainian flag and its colors to demonstrate support for the country since the war began. The trio appeared to change just before arriving at the space station, and one of them stated that each crew member may choose their own suit. Three Russian cosmonauts landed at the International Space Station in yellow flight suits with blue embellishments, matching the Ukrainian flag’s colors.

Three Russian cosmonauts arrived at the International Space Station wearing yellow and blue flight suits which some people have claimed resemble the Ukrainian national colours

The men were the first newcomers to the space station since Russia’s war in Ukraine began last month.

Cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev, Denis Matveyev, and Sergey Korsakov of Russian space firm Roscosmos successfully launched their Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft from the Russia-leased Baikonur launch pad in Kazakhstan on Friday at 8.55 p.m. local time. Just over three hours later, they docked at the station, joining two Russians, four Americans, and a German on the orbiting base.

One of the cosmonauts was wearing a blue flight suit in video captured as the capsule prepared to dock with the space station. It was unclear what message, if any, the yellow costumes they donned were supposed to convey.

The mission commander, Oleg Artemyev was asked about the colours. He said they had accumulated a great deal of yellow material in the warehouse so they had to make use of it

When the freshly arrived cosmonauts were able to communicate with family on Earth, Oleg Artemyev was asked about the yellow flight suits.

He said every crew chooses its own flight suits so that they are not all the same.

Artemyev said each crew gets to choose the colour of their flight suits so they chose yellow

‘It became our turn to pick a color. But in fact, we had accumulated a lot of yellow material so we needed to use it. So that’s why we had to wear yellow,’ he said.
