Johnny Depp lands film role as playboy king Louis XV after explosive Amber Heard trial

Following Depp’s dramatic defamation trial victory over ex-wife Amber Heard, the streaming giant famed for successes like “Stranger Things,” “Bridgerton,” and “Squid Game” is planning to license and stream the actor’s upcoming film.

Bloomberg News reported on Thursday that Netflix will provide financial support for the French period epic “La Favorite,” in which Depp will play King Louis XV.

According to a source close to Netflix, the streaming service will only license the movie to France for a window of 15 months following its theatrical premiere. Netflix did not comment.

The film, which was directed by Maiwenn Le Besco, is scheduled to hit French theatres in 2023 and become available on French Netflix 15 months later. Whether or when the movie will be accessible on Netflix internationally is unknown.

 “La Favorite” marks Depp’s first movie role since Hollywood shunned the actor after Heard made domestic violence accusations against him. n a harrowing defamation case against Heard, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages in June.
