Amazing isn’t it, a woman has lived in the same home for 104 years. She paid $250 for the house. George V was the reigning monarch, Britain commanded the biggest empire in history, and the First World War was still raging when Elsie Allcock was born in 1918.

More than a century of history has passed since then, including another World War, the first moon landing, the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, the development of the internet, and countless other events.

Elsie has continued to reside in the Huthwaite terraced house on Barker Street where she was born 104 years ago throughout it all.

The Sun claims that Elsie’s family initially moved into the home in 1902 when her father started renting it out for seven shillings and sixpence per week, or roughly £30 in modern currency.

Elsie, the youngest of five children, was born in the two-bedroom terraced house on June 28, 1918, and she continued to reside there after getting married to Bill in 1941, during the Second World War.

Since her mother passed away from pneumonia when she was 14 years old, she had been living with her father at the home to take care of him.

She said: “When me and Bill married, we just stopped here and never left. My dad died in 1949 and we finally bought the house in the 1960s.”

When Elsie purchased the home in the 1960s, it cost her £250. Today, the same amount would be worth a few thousand pounds, and the home is now estimated to be worth £75,000.

She explained: “We didn’t have £250, so I went to the council and asked for a loan. They agreed and the house was ours.

“We kept the outside loo – it still works. Very little has changed. I wouldn’t have been happy anywhere else.”

After purchasing the home, the new owners replaced the tin bath with a decent bathroom, according to Elsie.

Her 75-year-old son Ray said that his mother “loves” the home because it is “full of memories,” and her family is certain that the 104-year-old would never leave it.

She claims that she “could make my way around it in the dark” since she is so accustomed to it.

Elsie acknowledged that the house that has been a constant in her life “means everything to me” and that she “never wanted to live anyplace else.”
